ESTATE HISTORY

Founded during the Renaissance by a prominent family from Toulouse, Château Prooftag was originally a country residence surrounded by vineyards and orchards. Over the centuries, the estate has been passed down from generation to generation, steadily developing its winemaking expertise on the rolling hillsides of Fronton. Restored in the 18th century, the château still retains its iconic pink brick façades and its historic dovecote. With five centuries of history behind it, Château Prooftag now combines heritage and innovation, standing as a living symbol of the harmony between tradition and modernity.

VINEYARD CHARACTERISTICS

The Château Prooftag vineyard is rooted in clay and gravel soils over a sandy subsoil, typical of the Fronton appellation hillsides. These well-drained soils encourage deep vine rooting and promote excellent berry concentration. The climate is temperate oceanic, with warm summers balanced by cool Atlantic influences, creating ideal conditions for preserving the grapes’ aromatic freshness and balance. The south-facing vineyard plots enhance ripening and fully express the distinctive character of this harmonious terroir.

TERROIR & CLIMATE

The Château Prooftag vineyard covers around forty hectares of south-facing clay-gravel hillsides, benefiting from generous sunshine and the cooling winds of Occitanie. Négrette is the estate’s signature grape variety, complemented by Syrah and Cabernet Franc, creating a natural balance between power and elegance. Vineyard practices focus on respecting the soil and preserving biodiversity, with controlled natural ground cover and minimal treatments. Each parcel is vinified separately to reveal the unique identity of this exceptional Fronton terroir.
